Caving/Crazy Horse

 7-10-11

This morning we packed up our hotel again and headed out for some more sight seeing.  There are many caves in this part of South Dakota so we decided to visit one of them.  We wanted to visit "Jewel Cave" which is the 2nd longest cave in the world but their elevators were broken so they had no way of getting people into the cave for tours...bummer!  We ended up at "Rushmore Cave" instead, which was stunning!  It was an easy and interesting hike through the cave with our guide and tour group.

After the cave we went and visited the Crazy Horse memorial.  Elise and I are standing in front of a sculpture of what the mountain will look like when it is all finished and in the background you can see what has been done so far.  His face is completely done but there is still a lot of blowing up, carving, jack hammering, and detailing to be done before it is all finished.  "My lands are where my dead lie buried." (Crazy Horse)

After all the sight seeing we headed back to our first hotel, re-checked in, and met up with my mom's side of the family who drove down from North Dakota to hang our with us for a few days!
